Grade 6 - 12 ~ Wednesday 4 - 5:30pm
Grade 3 - 5 ~ Thurs 4 - 5:30pm

The classes are designed to allow students to progress at their own pace receiving individualized attention. During each 4 week session, students will have the opportunity to complete one or more piece of artwork each session. By the completion of just one session the student will be more confident in their ability to produce more successful art. A painting can only be as good as the drawing, therefore, emphasis is placed on drawing accurately so as to produce a good painting. Student will study a variety of subjects including still life, animals, portraits, landscapes and even cartooning, while exploring different mediums such as watercolors, pastels, colored pencil, and acrylics.

Classes are held in 4 week sessions and are on-going. Contact instructor for start dates. Maximum in the class is 8 students.

Wednesday 9-11:30am; $110

Students concentrate on working in their medium of choice. Using traditional academic methods, students are taught fundamental drawing skills and practice them in each class by rendering drawings, used as "blueprints" to complete a piece of art in one of the following mediums:

Acrylic/Oil on Canvas: Using the classical academic approach we start the painting with an "under painting" that sets the values or mood of the painting. Continuing from there we use a series of layers and glazes to produce a painting with depth.

Watercolor: Controlling the watercolor isn't as important as letting the watercolor lead. Lightest colors are generally applied first.

Pastel: Layering the pastel starting with a toned sanded paper, leads to most intriguing moods. As with any good painting, we start with an under painting, identifying the darkest shadows and warmest highlights, and move through the painting finishing with details.

Colored Pencil: Is it pencil or a painting? It's both. A painting that is produced with a colored pencil. Starting with the lightest values first, you continually work toward the darker values, laying multiple hues (colors) one over the next to produce a rich painting.

Classes are held in 4 week sessions and are on-going. Contact instructor for start dates.
